RVHS HOSA students were on hand at the Longleaf Middle School Career Fair on Friday, October 24th. In the picture, Blazer Tyesha McDaniel explains gloving to 6th grade students. Gloving is the correct medical way to put on gloves to create a barrier when handling a patient and their bodily fluids. Correct hand washing is for 15-20 seconds and involves a very specific procedure. Both these basic practices help to keep infection and the spread of germs under control in hospitals. The middle school students asked our HOSA students about their career aspirations and the direction they were planning on going. All of the students asked several questions regarding the concern over the Ebola virus, and how basic hand washing and gloving can help avoid the spread of this virus.
On Saturday, November 8th, the Winter Wishes committee will be hosting a community wide yard sale in C and D parking lot at Ridge View from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm. If you need to make room for the upcoming holiday season in your house, then come on out and sell your stuff! We will be charging $10 for one space rental or $15 for two. With each space rental, you will receive a table to set your items on as well as a chair. We provide the space that day, but you are responsible for tagging and selling your own items. If you would like to participate, please complete the Google form by clicking on the image. The deadline for signing up is Thursday, November 6th.
Herff Jones will be here on November 5th and 6th from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm in order for Seniors to order graduation supplies. If your child's last name begins with A-M, their order date will be on Wednesday, November 5th. If your child's last name begins with N-Z, their order date will be on Thursday, November 6th. Your child will receive information on graduation supplies during an assembly on Wednesday, October 29th, so you will have time to look over all the information before you place your order. This year the PTSO is excited to announce our new hassle-free fundraiser, SHOPAROO! Nationwide over 10,000 schools are already earning thousands of dollars through Shoparoo; and it is a great opportunity for us to really make a difference.

Blazer students Ryan Earle, Jacinda Heo, Jamila Green, Tori Huey, Savannah Talledo, Angelo Luna and Justin Turrentine attended the 2014 Fall Leadership Conference for SC HOSA at Newberry College this past Thursday. HOSA stands for the Health Occupations Students of America. This conference was a team building experience for our HOSA officers as well as an interactive learning experience. In the afternoon session, the SC Hospital Association discussed their health science careers website, besomethingamazing, for students to delve into the wide variety of career opportunities offered in the health sciences. The website offers virtual job shadowing, post secondary information and video simulations to engage future healthcare workers.

Congratulations to the football team on defeating Lugoff-Elgin 24-16 this past Friday to improve to 3-6 on the season and 1-2 in region play. The offense gained 309 yards with 176 coming on the ground and 133 in the air. QB T. High passed for 133 yards on 7 of 18 passing with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. RB T. Mitchell rushed 10 times for 68 yards, and WR M. Reaster-Glover caught 3 passes for 79 yards and 1 touchdown. On defense, the Blazers gave up only 220 yards with 82 on the ground and 138 passing. The defense was led by Defensive End K. Hopkins who had 14 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 1 pass deflection and 1 interception for a touchdown. Other defensive stars of the game included Defensive Tackle E. Roe who had 8 tackles and 2.5 sacks, and Linebacker M. Montgomery, who registered 10 tackles. Way to go Blazers!
Ridge View is proud to be hosting the Richland School District Two Board meeting tomorrow night, Tuesday, October 28th at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria. All are welcome to come out and hear about all the great things happening in Richland Two.

At the View Daily would like to wish our Blazer Volleyball team the best of luck as it travels today to play the top ranked team in the state, Wando H.S., in Mt. Pleasant, SC for the first round of the state playoffs. Our Lady Blazers are planning for the upset of the year and are excited and ready for the challenge! The ladies are looking to make history as RVHS has never beaten Wando in a volleyball playoff match. Good luck Blazers!

Several of our young ladies in Ridge View's Carolina Alliance for Technology (CAT) program met with a team from the Richland Two Institute for Innovation (R2I2) about how to recruit and maintain women in STEM programs. Important questions such as: Why did you choose a STEM (science, technology, engineering & mathematics) program?, and Would gender specific classes be helpful? Mentoring with other females in the industry and an all women's club were discussed. A BIG shout out as our Ridge View women begin to shape their future!
RVHS Student Council, Student Activities Director Michelle Goings, and class sponsors Patti Clary, Wendi Wimmer, Sonya Hayden and Candace Blakely attended the District 4 Rally on October 16th at Westwood High School participating in workshops, team-building activities, and hearing an amazing motivational speaker, Mr. Brooks Harper, from Lexington, SC.
On Friday, October 10th, the CAT students participated in the Nuclear Blitz! Three presenters, Mr. Grega, Mr. Felch, and Ms. Conwell from SCE&G's V.C. Summer Nuclear Power plant gave the students great exposure to the advantages of nuclear, how small a fuel pellet is, and the little waste created by generating nuclear power. Students were amazed that fuel pellets were as small as a tootsie roll. They also gave the students insight into the many career fields in nuclear from document control to human resource to operations management. In discussing various jobs, CAT students looked at whether a 2-year or 4-year degree would be necessary. They also were asked to draw an atom, which will be displayed in the foyer at V.C. Summer.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 22nd, a representative from Midlands Tech will be available to speak with students during lunch in the Main Hall. Also, students can go to room A-13 for a College Lunch Chat with our very own Mr. McMicken about the University of South Carolina. Bring your lunch and talk about life at USC.
