National Medalist Kiara Hayes |
Blazer Senior Kiara Hayes recently competed in the NAACP National ACT-SO Olympics in Baltimore, MD. ACT-SO is the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics. It is a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students. Hayes was one of only 5 students out of 90 Richland Two students mentored by ACT-SO Columbia to compete at the national competition along with over 1,000 students from across the nation. Not only did she compete, but Kiara earned a National Bronze Medal in the category of music vocal classical. For her efforts, Kiara received a new laptop computer, and will receive a reward of $1,000. Ridge View Principal Dr. Brenda Mack-Foxworth stated that "Kiara is such a talented young lady with an amazing heart. I couldn't be any prouder." Congratulations Kiara!
