ACADEMICS: Blazers Seniors DO Shakespeare

Typically in a Senior English class, students read Shakespeare, watch Shakespeare, and discuss Shakespeare.  This year, however, thanks to the Arts Innovation for Medical Sciences (AIMS) Grant, the Ridge View High School English IV students had an opportunity to DO Shakespeare by participating in a week-long workshop with guest artist Buren Martin.  Martin and Mrs. Ellen Harrison, AiMS Grant Coordinator, selected 21 English IV students to rehearse and showcase their production of Macbeth for the Class of 2020.  According to Mr. Haas, one of Ridge View’s English 4 teachers, “It was hard and intense work and the students who performed were not all, or even mostly, theater class students, as one might expect. Mr. Martin looked for raw talent, the ability to take directions, and willingness.”  The AIMS Grant is also affording Ridge View sophomores and freshman workshops later in the 2019-2020 school year.
