ATHLETICS: State Championship Tickets on Sale Now @ RVHS

The Ridge View Boys Basketball team takes on Wilson this Saturday night at 7pm at Colonial Life Arena in the AAAA SCHSL State Basketball Championship Game.  This is a rematch of the last season’s Championship Game.

Tickets are on sale now!  They are being pre-sold at Ridge View High School between the hours of 8am and 4pm in the Main Office.  All tickets are $12.  The ticket price is the same at the door.  We ask that you purchase your ticket in advance as Ridge View Athletics earns $2 per pre-purchased ticket that is purchased at Ridge View HS.

If you leave, you must pay to re-enter.  Children 5 and under do not need a ticket.

Parking is $10 per car.

There is a Spirit Bus available for RVHS Students and Staff.  Click here to sign up.  Space is limited!

There is a clear bag policy in place.                   Here is the seating plan:

Display good Sportsmanship

No signs or banners – No noise makers – No balls

No fans are allowed on the floor at the conclusion of the contest

SCCAWS $1,000 Scholarship Due March 26th



The SC Coaches Association of Women's Sports (SCCAWS) is offering two scholarships -- SCCAWS and Trophies by "M" Medical Scholarship and Educator's Scholarship.  Both scholarships are due to your school counselor by March 26, 2019.   Click on the image to download the two scholarship application forms.  The guidelines for each scholarship is below

  • SCCAWS and Trophies by “M” Scholarship will be awarded to an enrolling female college freshman planning to major in the medical field.
  • SCCAWS Educator’s Scholarship will be awarded to an enrolling female college freshman planning to major in education.   An additional $1000.00 scholarship is awarded from these applications for a Female Scholar Athlete.
  • Applications are to be returned complete and in order according to page number.

Phi Beta Sigma Columbia Alumni Chapter Offers $1,000 Scholarships

The Columbia Alumni Chapter (Beta Chi Sigma) of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is pleased to offer two $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors who will be entering college in the Fall of 2019.  It is their goal to encourage young minority men, who are aspiring to further their education at an institution of higher learning, by providing financial assistance.  If interested, click the image to print the application.  The deadline to apply in March 29th.

The Interact Club and Freshman Class Council are joining forces to assist residents of the Allen Benedict Court community who were recently displaced. You can help by donating items and clearing hours for non-disruptive behavior. Don't have hours? You can still participate!! Members of the community are invited to bring items as well.

On February 28th, during lunch, the Career Center is hosting Kimberly Myers from LORADAC for a lunch and learn to talk about working with individuals with substance abuse issues.  Students can sign up in the Career Center.  Lunch is provided and space is very limited so sign up early.

National Scholarship Award App Due Tomorrow, Feb 28th

ACADEMICS: Scholars Seniors Place Second in Black History Month Quiz Bowl

On Saturday, February 16, 2019 Scholars seniors Hadiyah Ballard, Otiana Thompson, Kay Brown and Mackenzie Gascon participated in the Omega Psi Phi Black History Month trivia bowl at Spring Valley and took home second place. Very proud of how these young ladies performed and all we learned about American history! 

Young Leaders Summit Application Due March 8th


The College Board partners with scholarship providers connected to the SAT®, PSAT/NMSQT®, and PSAT™ 10. Through these partners, students can access over $245 million in scholarship awards. The Young Leaders Summit (YLS), administered by a consortium led by the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, is a free, four-day, overnight college empowerment conference for top-performing, Pell Grant eligible, high school juniors.  It's designed to give a diverse group of students the tools to successfully apply to top universities, have full access to financial aid opportunities, and set a course for success.  YLS will take place August 8–11, 2019 at the University of Chicago.  Click the image to learn more about and apply for the summit.

Midlands Tech Airport & Beltline Campus Tour, March 5th


Calling all seniors and juniors interested in attending Midlands Tech...

On March 5th, the College Center and Career Center are taking students on a tour of the Industrial Technology programs offered at Midlands Tech Airport and Beltline campuses.    Students will have an opportunity to learn about Midland Tech programs, including Automotive Technology, Building Construction Technology, Commercial Graphics, General Technology, Heating, Ventilation,  Air Conditioning Technology, and Machine Tool Technology.  Students will also get to discuss possible careers upon graduation.  Lunch will be provided by MTC and spaces are limited.  Please pick up a permission form from the College Center.

SC Voc Rehab Sponsors Charlotte Hornets Career Day

The SC Vocational Rehabilitation Departments Pre-Employment Transition Services is sponsoring a trip to the Charlotte Hornets  Career in Sports Day on Friday, March 8th.   vs the Washington Wizards.

Students will hear from top Hornets executives in a multitude of fields about how they got their career started and participate in a Question & Answer period to dig deeper into the field they are most interested in pursuing.  Students, who are engaged during this session, will have a chance to participate in our high five-fan experience before the game between the Charlotte Hornets and the Washington Wizards.

ACADEMICS: Arford Includes Econ Material in Speech with SC House

On February 12th, Reilly Arford, a Scholars Magnet for Business and Law student, spoke at the SC House Education Subcommittee Hearing on House bill 3957, a comprehensive reform of SC education.   Arford became a bit of an overnight sensation for his speech, and you can find several articles about him if you google his name.  What is particularly outstanding is that Arford used economic theory he learned in Mr. Kurt Stiglbuaer's class.  He used what he was has taught him to try to persuade the legislators to focus on teacher salary during the legislative session.  The members of the subcommittee were so impressed that they offered to allow Arford to submit one amendment to the bill, to which he quickly replied, a 10% raise.  If you would like to check out the speech, click the image.

ACADEMICS: IHS Students Determine Energy in Foods

How many Calories are really in potato chips?  The freshmen Institute for Health Sciences used calorimetry to determine the amount of energy in a potato chip, Cheerio, marshmallow, and cracker.  By burning the food, energy was transferred to a can of water where the temperature was measured.   Which type of food contains the most Calories?

ACADEMICS: IHS Students Develop New Biomedical Innovations

Senior Institute for Health Sciences students developed and presented new biomedical innovations. Students researched a problem, developed possible solutions, drew a prototype, and presented a marketing plan in order to sell their innovation through their company. Innovations included new obstetrics tools, prosthetic limb redesigns, and pharmaceutical products.

ATHLETICS: JV Softball Pizza Card Fundraiser

The JV Ridge View Softball team is selling Dominos' Slice The Price Pizza Cards for $10. With this card, you will receive a FREE large pizza with the purchase of a large pizza at regular menu price!  If you buy 10 pizzas, you get 10 free.  Using the card once will save you  more than the price of the card itself.  Each card is valid for delivery or carryout and can be used in several counties in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia until December 31, 2019!  They are perfect for parties, banquets, classes, clubs, and teams.  Cash and Checks (made out to Ridge View HS Softball Team) are acceptable payment forms.

ATHLETICS: Malcolm Wilson Selected for Carolinas All Star Classic

Malcolm Wilson Selected for Carolinas All Star ClassicRidge View Senior Basketball player Malcolm Wilson has been selected for the Carolinas All Star Classic.   The game will be played March 23 at Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC.

ACTIVITIES: Otiana Thompson Address Key Leaders

Student Body President Otiana Thompson had the opportunity to speak at the Key Leaders meeting held at R2i2. She presented information about Pocket Points, an app that aims to reduce the amount of time students spend on their cell phones. She was intrigued by this app after Mrs. Cheryl Hunter, Ridge View's Technology and Learning Coach, disseminated information about it around the school. Otiana's hope is that the district will support a competition between the five high schools to earn the most points by putting down their phones and paying attention in class. Thank you Otiana for your vision, leadership, and positive representation of Ridge View!

ACTIVITIES: Ridge View's Blood Drive Was A Success

Ridge View's second Blood Drive of the school year was a huge success! We exceeded our goal by collecting 38 pints of blood. Thank you to all students, faculty, and community members who participated. The final blood drive of the school year will be held on April 30th from 9 AM to 3 PM in the small gym. You can sign up to give today by visiting www.redcrossblood.org and searching for Ridge View's drive. All students, staff and community members over 17 years old are invited to participate. Students who are 16 years old can donate but must have parental permission. Those forms are located outside of M-141.
