Study Abroad Applications Due Next Week

The U.S. Department of State provides over 1,000 merit-based scholarships each year for a summer or an academic year in over 25 countries. These high school exchange programs prepare young Americans to succeed in the 21st century’s global economy by developing their foreign language skills, increasing their cross-cultural understanding, strengthening their leadership capacity, and fostering new academic insights and ambitions.

The application period is now open for the following programs:
  • Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Abroad – Deadline December 4, 2018
  • Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange – Deadline December 11, 2018
  • Youth Ambassadors (application period opens in December)
All scholarships include international airfare, tuition, and program costs, as well as meals and living accommodations (often with a host family).  The programs have no language prerequisites, but applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 18 when the program starts.  Seniors are welcome to apply and can travel after graduation, as long as they meet the age requirement.  The program is particularly interested in reaching young people who would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in a study abroad experience.

ACTIVITIES: Scholars Magnet Begins SisterCare Winter Wishes Project

It’s the most wonderful time of the year:  Winter Wishes!  This is our opportunity to give back to those who need it most in our local community to ensure that everyone is healthy and safe during the holidays.  Victims of domestic abuse and violence need our help! SisterCare is an organization that gives refuge to women and children escaping these unsafe conditions and helps them create a new life.  Partnering with SisterCare, the Ridge View High School Scholars Academy Magnet for Business and Law is trying to collect at least 600 toiletries to provide to those who have nothing more than the clothes on their back.  Help contribute to our cause by collecting items such as toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrush, paper towels, soap, etc.  All you need to do let the staff at the front desk know you are dropping off items to C-60.  We wil have someone pick up your donations.  For more information feel free to contact me, Sarah Hasan (00031867@richland2.org), or Mrs. Nicole Walker (nwalker@richland2.org).  You can also visit the SisterCare website by clicking on the image.  www.sistercare.org.
