Cash Prizes for USC-Columbia, Honors College Writing Contest, Deadline 9/25

The South Carolina Honors College at the University of South Carolina invites students to enter the South Carolina High School Writing Contest for cash prizes and a publishing opportunity.

PARTICIPANTS: The contest is open to South Carolina high school juniors and seniors in public, private, and home schools. Students must be residents of South Carolina. 

TOPIC: The topic is "How should we improve the state of South Carolina?" We welcome submissions in all creative genres, including fiction, drama, and poetry. We also welcome straightforward essays and other kinds of writings - diary entries and letters, for example. Submissions must be within 750 words.

DEADLINE: September 25, 2020.

Cash prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250 will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners. The entries of finalists and winners will be showcased by the South Carolina Honors College on its website.

Fall Sports is just around the corner at Ridge View High School!  Full information and dates are in this post.

Each student-athlete is encouraged to contact their sport’s Head Coach via email to get information regarding their sport for more specific schedules.  Head Coaches contact information can be found by clicking here.

To help students succeed in Advanced Placement and other rigorous classes, we’ve created the NMSI Summer Enrichment Program - a series of free sessions for students in grades 11 and 12 preparing to take the following AP courses: Calculus, Biology, Physics 1, and Language / College English

This virtual learning opportunity happens in real-time and students can choose the session that works best with their schedule. Students will need a reliable computer or smart device with internet access to stream audio and video.

ATHLETICS: Scheduling Athletic Training Room Appointments

Ridge View Blazers we are excited about the 2020-2021 Season. The Athletic Training Room (ATR) is now open for appointments.  Due to COVID-19, there is a limit on how many people are allowed to be in the ATR at one time.  Appointments can be made for: 

  • Evaluations: Injuries that you want the AT to know about determine the issue
  • Treatment: For injuries that have been evaluated and the AT has created a plan of action Ex) Ice, Estim, Ultrasound, Hot pack, etc
  • Rehab/Prehab: For injuries/issues that have been evaluated and the AT has created exercises to prevent and treat injuries

PLEASE COME PREPARED IN ATHLETIC CLOTHES AND SNEAKERS! ALSO, BE ON TIME. IF DO NOT SHOW UP FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO MAKE ANOTHER UNTIL YOU HAVE DISCUSSED THE MISSED APPOINTMENT WITH MS. JENKINS.

ACADEMICS: 5 Class of 2020 Students Receive AP Recognition

Congratulations to 5 students in the Class of 2020. Bernard McIlnay and John Walker earned the Advanced Placement® (AP®) Capstone Diploma. Ayjah Johnson, Elizabeth Keels, and Grace Miller earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™.  To receive the AP Capstone Diploma, students must earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar, AP Research, and on four additional AP Exams. To receive the AP Seminar and Research Certificate, students must earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research. 

“We are proud to recognize the outstanding achievements of students who participated in the AP Capstone Diploma program, and we continue to look forward to providing students with opportunities to explore their passions while building college-level academic and collaboration skills,” said Ridge View High School Principal Dr. Brenda Mack-Foxworth.

Nicole Walker, the director of the Scholars Academy Magnet for Business and Law program, who facilitates the learning said, “Pursuing an AP Capstone diploma means students will be well-prepared for the rigorous challenges of college studies.  Students learn to conduct real-world, meaningful research, synthesize ideas, and contribute to the academic conversation around a variety of important topics.”

ATHLETICS: Ridge View Volleyball JV Coach Announced

Ridge View High School Volleyball announces the hiring of Jasmyne English as the new 2020 JV Coach. Coach English played at Converse College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Coach English comes to Ridge View after serving as a Grad Assistant at CIU. She also currently coaches at Lake Murray Volleyball Club. Coach English is excited to continue building a successful volleyball program at The View with Coach Moses.

Apply Today for the SaplingHR $1,000 Scholarship, Due Nov 1st



The SaplingHR Onboarding Experience Scholarship is an award for any current or soon-to-be undergrad who has a passion for the people operations and HR space. The scholarship has a brief submission process, and applicants will be judged on their ability to convey their idea for useful innovation in mobile device technology.

Students applying must submit an essay explaining your great idea for an onboarding program for new employees of a business and how it would improve their experience. There are no conditions or requirements for this essay. Please keep submissions to 5 paragraphs and 600 words at the absolute maximum. While spelling, punctuation, and general cohesiveness will make your essay easier to read, and therefore judge, you are not being graded. The winning submission will be one that clearly conveys an idea that could make a big difference with information technology relating to mobile devices.
