ACADEMICS: Black Attends National Youth Leadership Forum

Richard Black, a rising senior in the BioHealth Magnet Program, attended the National Youth Leadership Forum: Advanced Medicine & Health Care at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.  The forum, held July 19-28, provided Richard an opportunity to experience a wide array of health care careers and develop the skills required to succeed in college and in the 21st century health care environment.

This challenging and rewarding program also included attending a real medical training facility for a simulated patient encounter.  Richard got to diagnose a patient and develop the optimal plan of care as well as participated in the forum's six-phase epidemiology case study, which puts him at the center of managing a serious outbreak.

We want to say congratulations to Richard and his parents, Willie and Gertrude Black, and can't wait to hear about all of the wonderful educational experiences he received.

ATHLETICS Focus: Interested in Volleyball Camp?

Do you have a rising 4th through 9th grader interested in learning volleyball or increasing their fundamental skills?  Consider sending your young athlete to Blazer Volleyball Skill Camp.  Athletes will be divided by skill level and/or age group, so this is a great way for your child to either learn volleyball or polish their skills prior to their school's tryout.  No volleyball experience is needed, so this is a great way to keep any youth productive and active July 21-24.  Click on the image to review and print the camp's pamphlet and registration form.  Email Coach Amber Haver (ahaver@richland2.org) to register early.  They are looking forward to seeing you!!  If you know anyone that also might be interested, please forward this link to them.

COMMUNITY: RV Graduate Honors Irmo Toddler

Last month we learned about 3-year old Jacoby Latta, who died after a tree limb fell on him during a church picnic at an Irmo park.  To honor his death, Ridge View graduate Corey Hemingway and her dad drew a mural in their driveway before the Independence Day holiday. The mural was of Jacoby's favorite superhero, Captain America.   Corey and her father hope the mural provides a little comfort to the Latta family in knowing that Jacoby is still missed by Hemingway family, their neighbors, and their friends.   If you would like to read the WIS story, please click on the image.
