One Final Reminder to Parents of Seniors

Please make note of the following procedures and information for the Graduation Ceremony.
  1. The RVHS Class of 2016 Graduation Ceremony is at the Colonial Life Arena on 801 Lincoln Street tomorrow at 12:00 PM.
  2. The doors for the arena will open at 11:30 AM for all family members and their guests.
  3. Balloons, signs, and noise makers are not allowed in the arena during graduation.
  4. Guests who are loud and disruptive during the ceremony will be escorted out by the Richland County Sheriffs Department.  Please educate your guests on appropriate behavior for the graduation ceremony.  
  5. If you have someone with special needs, such as handicapped or in a wheelchair, the arena personnel will assist them when the doors open at 11:30 AM.
  6. Balloons, signs, and noise makers are not allowed in the arena during graduation.
  7. All individuals entering the arena are subject to search.

Seniors, this is your last reminder.  Graduation is tomorrow!!  Enjoy your special day.  RIDGE VIEW WILL MISS YOU!!

  2. You must dress appropriately for the graduation ceremony.
    • Females: Dress, skirt, or dress pants in a solid color, dress shoes with a strap around the heel; a hairstyle that allows you to wear the cap.  The ramp is steep, so your heel should be a modest height so that you do not trip or fall on the ramps.
    • Males: Shirt with a collar (preferably white), tie, long dress slacks, and dress shoes with dress socks.
  3. No jewelry is allowed on or outside your graduation gown.  Earrings are permissible but should be modest.
  4. You should carry nothing with you, including phone, purse, stuffed animals, balloons, signs, food, or drink.
  5. Do not embellish or bedazzle your cap and gown.
  6. Only official Ridge View honor cords and stoles may be worn.
  7. Arrive at the Loading Dock entrance of the Colonial Life Arena by 10:45 AM on Wednesday, June 1st.  Allow plenty of time for traffic and parking.  Construction will have some roads closed.
  8. Balloons, signs, and noise makers are not allowed in the arena during graduation.
  9.  Maintain appropriate behavior before, during and after the ceremony.  Inappropriate behavior includes, but are not limited to: calling out, throwing caps in the air, cheering, loud & inappropriate noises, waving to the crowd as you cross the stage, dancing across the stage, ringing cell phones, inappropriate hand signals or gestures
  10. Graduation officials reserve the right to pull from the line any senior dressed, equipped, or behaving inappropriately and run the risk of not receiving your diploma.

ATHLETICS: RV Names New Basketball Coach

Ridge View is proud to announce the hiring of Yerrick Stoneman as the new Boys Head Basketball Coach. Coach Stoneman is from Virginia and comes to RVHS with a wealth of experience including 11 years as an assistant at national powerhouse Oak Hill Academy. ACADEMICS: CAT Robotics Team Championships


Congratulations on our Carolina Alliance for Technology (CAT) Robotics Programming and Design Teams. These teams were dedicated this semester and their hard work paid off in a great in-house competition.  Our 2016 champions were the team of Nashja Henson, Jazzmin Graham and Trinity Yates (pictured with Principal Brenda Mack-Foxworth). Cailon Broaster and Brenden Heo were the First Runner-ups while second place was won by the team of Raymond Hudson, Julian Staley and Aaron Ford. Brice Richardson and Jason Scriven placed third. Next year, these teams and others will be taking their talents on the road to compete against other high schools.

Save the Date: Marcus Lattimore Leadership Academy

The Marcus Lattimore Foundation Leadership Academy has announced an upcoming career day event in the Fall of 2016! This expo-style event will cater to the needs of the student-athlete providing each participant a road map from the recruiting process to their first job! It will be held in Columbia on October 5th at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The target audience will include rising 9th and 10th grade male and female student-athletes along with athletic directors, school counselors and career specialists. ACADEMICS: Castle Con Recap

On May 19th, RVHS students held their 20 Time Showcase in our auditorium and large gym. This year our students also partnered with students from Sandlapper Elementary to help them collaborate on passion projects in a program called Project CASTLE (Creating Academic Success Through Leading and Entrepreneurship). ATHLETICS: Soccer Awards Night

The Boys and Girls Soccer Awards Night will be held this Tuesday, May 31st. At 4:30 pm, we will play a soccer game for fun, and parents are invited to play or serve as a referee. At 6 pm, we will give out awards. We will not charge $5 as was stated earlier, and we will not be serving food. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Brian Butler at bbutler@richland2.org.

"Just Kickin' It" Youth Soccer Camp Deadline Approaching

The inaugural "Just Kickin' It" Blazer soccer camp will be held from June 27 to June 30th from 6-8 pm at RVHS for boys and girls of all skill levels from K-8th grade. This camp will help players improve their soccer skills and develop confidence on the ball. The cost of the camp is $50, and the deadline to register is this Tuesday, May 31st. ARTS: Final Band Ensembles Concert Tonight

You are invited to the final concert of the year by the Ridge View Band Small Ensembles tonight at 7 pm in the Auditorium.The concert is free and open to the public. The concert will feature the R&B Jazz Band, the Kelly Mill M.S. Jazz Ensemble, the RV Horn Ensemble, the RV Saxophone Ensemble, RV Brass Quintet, and the RV Percussion Ensemble.

The parents of Ridge View High School seniors will not be the only ones congratulating them on a job well-done. Our soon to be graduates will take their first Senior Walk tomorrow down the halls of Rice Creek Elementary School, where many of them attended elementary school. Faculty members from each school will recognize them for their accomplishments. Rice Creek students will be giving high-fives to congratulate them for completing their requirements for graduation while making graduation a goal of their own.



Mobile Vietnam Veterans Memorial Comes to Blythewood

The Town of Blythewood is hosting the Mobile Vietnam Veterans Memorial in DOKO Meadow Park at 100 Alvina Hagood Circle in Blythewood from Friday, May 27th through Monday, May 30th. JROTC Cadets will be available to escort parents to the Multipurpose Room from the parking lot.  This will also be a great time to purchase Ridge View apparel and the 2016 yearbook.  We hope to see you all there.

Congratulations to Jaylin Lewis on signing a National Letter of Intent to play Volleyball for the Life University Running Eagles in Marietta, Georgia. Lewis, a defensive specialist, helped lead the Lady Blazers to a 12-5 overall record, and 8-2 in region action. Congratulations Jaylin!

Senior Assembly Next Week!


Friday, May 27, 2016
9:00 - 10:00 AM

Seniors must arrive by 7:30 AM on May 27th to the Small Gym.  Your attendance is mandatory.  Seniors must be dressed appropriately for the Senior Assembly.
  • Females should be in a skirt, dress, or dress pants.
  • Males should wear dress slacks, a button down shirt, tie, and dress shoes.
  • All outfits MUST follow Richland 2 dress code.
  • Females should leave their purses at home, locked in their car, or in their lockers.  NO purses will be allowed to be carried in the Senior Assembly or Graduation Ceremony.
  • Cell phones should be put away so that Ridge View staff and visitors cannot see them during the Senior Assembly or Graduation.
If any senior chooses to dress inappropriately, he/she will NOT participate in the Senior Assembly.  Remember the Senior Assembly is the rehearsal for the Graduation Ceremony.
