ACADEMICS: Scholars Academy Kicks Off this Year's R2 Ready to Read Campaign

Alicia Brown, student chairperson talks
with district coordinator Martha Jones
about ways to grow the campaign.
The Scholars Academy Magnet for Business and Law is now collecting K-2 new or gently used books as part of the district's R2 Ready to Read Initiative. The books, which can be dropped off in the rotunda, are distributed to one of 14 elementary schools around the district in an effort to help young children build their at-home libraries. Last year every student in the program received 4 books for their personal library. This year our goal is to provide five books. We would like to encourage donors to bring in board books, one area underrepresented last year. In addition, donors can provide funding to purchase new books and receive a tax deduction. For more information contact Nicole Walker at nwalker@richland2.org.

There are two components to our summer reading program: school-wide summer reading and an English Department Honors and AP Summer Reading program. Click on the image to read more about our Summer Reading program and to see our book lists.
