School Couseling Office's Summer Hours
Ridge View counselors have staggered work schedules throughout the summer. Although counselors will be available to answer your questions Monday – Thursday from 8 AM to 4 PM, they might not be your assigned counselor. Should you need to speak with a counselor or register a student, please call the School Counseling office at 803.699.2999 ext. 84217. Registration times for new students is 9 AM – 3 PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays, by appointment only. The School Counseling Office will be closed July 1 - 5.

ATHLETICS: Ridge View Boy's Golf Successful Season
Congratulations to the Ridge View boys golf team for another successful season. The Blazers completed their third year in a row with a winning record in their 9-Hole matches with a record of 10-9. The highlight of the season came in the First Annual Blazer Open when the team captured the Purple Division Championship. For the third year in a row Jacob Fink took home the Lowest Stroke Award. Jacob also became the first Blazer golfer to make the All-Region team in over a decade when he placed in the top 8 at the Region 3AAAA Tournament. Jacob, along with teammates Christian Wilson and Brent Wilson also got to compete in the AAAA Upper State Qualifier at Furman University Golf Club. All three golfers represented Blazer Nation well shooting in the 80's. Christian Wilson also earned the Most Dedicated Award. Christian has demonstrated great commitment to the team in all aspects of the program.

The attire for the formal picture will be provided (tux for male students and drape for female students). The formal picture will also serve as the picture for the Ridge View 2019-2020 Senior ID card. Only photographs taken by Strawbridge Studios will be in the 2019-2020 Ridge View Yearbook. There is no cost to take the formal picture.

CCU's Explore LIFE Application Due TOMORROW, June 10th
Explore LIFE, a 3-day residential camp hosted by Coastal Carolina University’s LIFE Program, is for high school students, ages 18-21, who are interested in learning more Coastal LIFE. Camp dates are June 20-22, 2019.
Coastal LIFE is a non-degree postsecondary program for students with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities. These postsecondary programs can be costly; and this is an opportunity for a student and parents/guardians to be sure this will be the right path to pursue before making a commitment. The application criteria include:
- Age 18-21
- Be a student with an Intellectual and/or Developmental Disability
- Have an open case with Vocational Rehabilitatiob
Applications will be accepted until June 10th. Once accepted, applicants will be notified of what to bring and all additional information. There is no charge to attend this camp.

Voc Rehab 2019 Summer Business and College Tours
Richland Area Transition Counselors will be hosting our Annual College and Career Tours for students that are on a South Carolina State Diploma Track during the weeks of June 13th - June 28th. The tours are designed to provide students the opportunity to learn more about college admissions requirements, disability services, the financial aid process, and majors offered. Students will also have an opportunity to speak with professionals in various fields.
This program is ideal for rising juniors and seniors for the 2019-20 school year., but rising sophomores and graduating seniors for the 2019 school year are welcome to participate as well if they haven’t made a college decision. If students participated in the 2018 tours they are welcome to participate again this year if they desire (not required).
Students will report daily to 201 Corporate Park Blvd. Columbia SC 29223. Please be advised we only have 40 slots available for this tour and we serve every school in Richland County. Spots will be honored on a first come first serve basis. A full Itinerary will be provided for interested participants after last dates are finalized.

Did your student forget to clean out his/her locker? All personal items found in lockers & in Lost & Found can be retrieved from A-01 until June 7th. All textbooks collected from lockers were returned to the Book Room. All items left after June 7th will be donated to the Kidney Foundation.

Last Day to Pick Up Medications June 6th
This is a reminder that all medications must be picked up from school health rooms by noon Thursday, June 6, 2019. Medications are not kept in the health room over the summer. Please pick up all over-the-counter and prescription medications (inhalers, Epi-pens, other prescription medications) from the health room by Thursday, June 6th at 12 noon. Any medications left after 12 noon will be destroyed.

ACADEMICS: 6 Blazers Competing in National History Day Contest
Jada Adams, Sarah Hasan, Anna Jones, Traniah Neal, Samuel Randazzo, and Keyani Turner will compete in the National History Day Contest held at the University of Maryland, College Park in the Washington, D.C. area on June 9-13. The 2019 theme for the contest is Triumph & Tragedy in History. Our students will join more than half a million students globally who will complete projects in one of five categories: documentary, exhibit, paper, performance, or website.
Adams, Hasan, Neal, and Turner will compete with a Performance project titled The Triumph and Tragedy of Indira Ghandi. Jones and Randazzo will compete with a Documentary project titled The Triumph and Tragedy of the Chinese Cultural Revolution.

Chasity Thomas, Graduates with Perfect Attendance
Please help us congratulate Chasity Thomas, the only Richland 2 Class of 2019 senior to graduate with perfect attendance. She has not missed a single day of school in 12 years. The South Carolina Department of Education is recognizing her for perfect attendance from first through 12th grade. Chasity is one of 61 seniors in South Carolina to achieve perfect attendance throughout their entire academic career. Each South Carolina school year consists of 180 days, which means Chasity is being honored have been present for 2,160 days at North Springs Elementary, Summit Parkway Middle and Ridge View High schools. Way to go Chasity!!

ACADEMICS: Social Studies Teacher Griffin Commands Ft Jackson Battalion
During the summer, Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Edwin Griffin, one of our Social Studies teachers, took command of the 2nd Battalion 345th Regiment (Training Support BN) at Ft. Jackson South Carolina. The Battalion consists of Observer Coach Trainers (OC/T) who help to train and mobilize deploying units from Ft. Bliss Texas, Ft. Hood Texas, and Ft. Stewart Georgia. Edwin Griffin has been a social studies teacher at Ridge View High School for over 18 years. Principal, Dr. Brenda Mack-Foxworth attended the change of command ceremony.

Please help us congratulate Mrs. Jennifer McLeod-Crady, the magnet director of The Institute of Health Science. She was recognized as the Teacher of the Year from the South Carolina Academy of Science (SCAS). The SCAS Teacher of the Year Award recognizes excellence in teaching based on recommendations from colleagues and students, samples of teacher evaluations from the last three years, and evidence of directing research and mentoring students.

Lockers Cleaned Out Tomorrow
Student lockers will be cleaned out June 4, 2019. If your student rented a locker from Ridge View, please have him/her remove personal items before June 4th. All textbooks collected from lockers will be returned to the Book Room. All personal items collected will be relocated to A-01. Please have your student retrieve any personal items they may have left in their lockers by June 7, 2019. All items left after June 7th will be donated to the Kidney Foundation.
