Educational Scholarship Program
Award: Subject to availability of funds, up to $500 may be awarded for the school year
Eligibility Requirements
- Currently a graduating high school senior or a post-secondary student
- High school or post-secondary grade point average of 2.5 or above unweighted GPA
- Currently a resident of one of the States comprising the Mid-Eastern Region of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
- Admitted to or enrolled in an accredited college or university at the time of application. Proof of admission/enrollment must be submitted with this application. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible for nomination.
- Former or current participants in an Eta Phi Beta sponsored program or organization may receive preference. Applicants may reapply annually.

- Completed application form
- High school and/or any post-secondary school transcripts
- Two letters of reference from persons who are not relatives of the candidate. The letters should address the suitability of the candidate for the award, nature of the relationship with the candidate and length of time of the relationship. Letters must come from two of the following three:
- An academic advisor, academic counselor or recent instructor
- A leader of a church or community service organization with which the applicant is associated.
- A supervisor at a job or volunteer position, or any personal reference of the applicant's choosing.

The Solomon Jackson, Jr., Scholarship Foundation will award scholarships annually to low-income residents of the state of South Carolina who are graduates of public high schools or who obtained a high school equivalency diploma from the same state. Preference will be given to persons of color. The applicants must plan to attend an accredited and approved two-year or four-year institution within the United States. Students entering or returning to school are encouraged to apply.
Criteria
- Resident of South Carolina for a minimum of 4 years
- Senior at a public high school in Richland, Fairfield, Kershaw, or Marlon counties, or Dillon 4, Hampton 2, Florence 4, or Orangeburg 3 school districts
- Enrolled in as a full-time student in a program toward an Associates or Bachelors degree
- Possess financial need
- Demonstrated aptitude or achievement, such things as academic record and extracurricular activities are important
- Demonstrated outstanding citizenship such as having been active in community service
Applicants may apply for a scholarship before being accepted into the college or university. Scholarship awarding is contingent upon being accepted into and attending the school.

July ACT Score for State Scholarship Initial Eligibility
Students will now have the opportunity to obtain a qualifying for either the LIFE or Palmetto Scholarship by taking either the June or July test administration of the ACT during 2020.
LIFE Scholarship:
- July ACT score of 24 or higher
- Send test scores to the college or university.
- The financial aid office at their institution will determine their eligibility for the LIFE Scholarship and award accordingly.
Palmetto Fellows Scholarship:
- June or July ACT test
- Submit the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship application as Pending by Late Award Period by June 30, 2020
- Submit transcript and rank calculation by June 15, 2020
- Send test scores directly to CHE (ACT registration code: 6326)
ACT Test Date: July 18, 2020
- Registration Deadline: June 19, 2020
- Late Registration Deadline: June 20-26, 2020

Each year the State Department of Education hosts a ceremony to acknowledge the students who have chosen to go into the armed services upon graduation. This year's ceremony will be virtual and will be posted on the SC State Department's Facebook page to view TODAY, May 28, 2020. Chromebook Reminders
Just a few reminders about Chromebooks.
- Students who will remain in Richland Two for the 2020-2021 school year will keep their Chromebooks during the summer.
- Students who are withdrawing from Richland Two for the 2020-2021 school year, should return their Chromebooks to the technology depot service center at Longleaf Middle School.
- The last day for the Class of 2020 to return Chromebooks is Monday, June 1st, unless given special permission by GEAR Up Coordinator, Ms. Williams.
- If a student is graduating or withdrawing from Richland Two and does not return the district-issued Chromebook, the district will have to assess a fee.

ACTIVITIES: Changes to Senior Week!!
Seniors, due to the forecast of rain this week, the Senior Drive In Movie and Senior Sunset have been rescheduled to Monday, June 1st. Make sure you arrive to the student parking lot starting at 6:30 PM to get your Purple Pass, graduation tickets, cords, gifts, and more. You are welcome to park and enjoy some socially distanced activities prior to the start of the senior recognitions at 7:30 PM. Following the program, you may stay for refreshments and a movie! Last Day to Post for State Treasurer’s Office Grant, TODAY, May 27th

Virtual Youth Summit, May 21-June 11, Register TODAY
Eat Smart Move More South Carolina and the HYPE Project are hosting the 8th Annual Youth Summit on May 21st through June 11th! This year’s event will be virtual. Each week participants will hear youth and community leaders talk about coping with stress caused by the coronavirus, youth engagement tactics, and healthy eating and active living strategies to improve the health of communities. The four-part Youth Summit will feature leaders in youth engagement, as well as fun and relaxing activities you can use to ease your mind and help you handle stress.

Congratulations to Jada Adams whose film, "Turn up the Mic" is a Top 12 finalist for the SC Young Filmmakers Project. The SCHSL has released a NEW physical packet to be able to participate in sports at the high school level. Packets can be downloaded from RidgeViewSports.com. Packets must be dated after April 1, 2020 to be able to participate in Ridge View Sports for the 2020-2021 school year.
