Student Activities Announces Homecoming Week Events

Our homecoming week will kick off on Monday, October 7th, and run through Friday, October 11th.  The theme is "There's No Place Like Homecoming" based on the Wizard of Oz.  Here are some of the planned activities for the week.  More details will be posted.

- Monday: Black Out Dress Day (wear black clothing) 

- Tuesday: Best Kicks Dress Day (wear your best shoes), Silly String Battle during lunch, RV's Got Talent Show @ 7pm ($3 admission)

- Wednesday: Pajama Dress Day

- Thursday: Character Dress Day (Dress up like your favorite Wizard of Oz character), Lunch Dance Party (admission $2), Homecoming Dance from 6-9pm ($5 advance ticket; $10 at door)

- Friday: Blazer Pride Dress Day (Seniors wear black, Juniors wear purple, Sophomores wear gray & Freshen wear white), Homecoming Voting during 3rd Period, Football vs. Irmo at 7:30pm, Crowning of Homecoming Queen/King at halftime of the football game.

Volleyball Falls to Blythewood

The Lady Blazers fought hard, but fell to Blythewood in Volleyball Thursday night three sets to none (22-25, 20-25, and 20-25).  Sophomore Amarrah Cooks was a bright spot for the Blazers leading the team offensively with 16 attacks, 11 kills, and only 2 errors.  She also held 11 blocks, and only had 2 blocking errors.  Freshman Sydney Swann also had a good night with 45 ball handling attempts, 25 assists, and only 9 errors.  She also had 12 successful serves and 5 aces.  Other Blazer highlights included Junior LaSaisha Brown's 18 digs, and Sophomore Jaylin Lewis' 14 service receptions.

Important Changes to NCAA Initial-Eligibility Requirements

Did you know that the NCAA's initial-eligibility academic standards are changing for student-athletes enrolling at an NCAA Division I university on or after August 1, 2016?  This will effect this year's high school sophomore class, and younger student-athletes.  A brief summary of the changes can be found by clicking on this LINK.

To assist in getting this message out, the NCAA has developed the Initial-Eligibility Resource Index, a new electronic tool that contains links to the NCAA Eligibility Center's resources and presentations available free of charge. 

Senior Beanies On Sale

Senior beanies are in and are on sale for $12 each. This is a GREAT price as the beanies are hand stitched and of great quality!  If you would like one, see Ms. Clary in room B-41 or see a Senior Class officer.  Only 96 were ordered, and they will go fast!!

NCDA Annual Poetry and Poster Contest

The National Career Development Association (NCDA) is sponsoring it's annual poetry and poster contest. It would be great if we had representation from Ridge View in the county contest this year.  Winners at the county level will be entered into the state contest and those winners will be entered into the national contest. Entry forms with admission requirements are available in the College and Career Center for any teachers or students who may be interested. The deadline for county submissions is Wednesday, November 6th, and can be dropped off in the CCC.

ASVAB Test Offered in November

Ridge View High School will be offering the ASVAB test on November 1st at 8:30 am in the auditorium. There is a sign up sheet for students in the College and Career Center for those interested in taking the test. The deadline to sign up is October 11, 2013. The CCC will be offering ASVAB practice tests to students who wish to take the test on October 21st and October 28th. Students will have to sign up for these practice tests in the CCC. The deadline to sign up for the practice test is October 16th. If you have any questions see Ms. Barnes in the CCC or e-mail her at arbarnes@richland2.org.
