Athletics: Cross Country brings home the Regional Championship Title

Cross Country brings home the Regional Championship Title after a decisive win against competitive 'sister school' Westwood, formally owners of the coveted honor. Both the boys JV and V won their respective divisions, with senior Chris Abney winning the JV race. Quentin Joseph led the Blazers to a blazing finish at 2nd place in a personal best of 17:42, he was quickly followed by Darren Williams in 4th with a personal best of 17:49. Logan Zeis came in 3rd for the Blazers (6th overall) in under 18 mins as well. These harriers earned "All Region" honors for their fine performance after years, months, 1000's of miles and hours of often excruciating effort. Emmanuel Williams and Tyler Gadson rounded out the Varsity's efforts to take back the Region Champ Title, last held by RV in 2016. 

Finishing out this year's race for the Blazers was freshman Huthayfah Ballard, and the team would like to recognize the leadership influence, heart and incredible work ethic of fellow blazer and Captain Josh Robinson for his undeniable contribution to his team's win.

Also, of note is the sacrifice Chris Abney made to allow a fellow teammate to run V when he easily could have, this type of personal sacrifice and character (putting team and mates first) is "what makes coaching these young people so special and rewarding," says Coach Julie Kenison.

ACTIVITIES: Breast Cancer Survivors & Loved Ones Honored

During Ridge View's home football game against South Pointe last week, StuCo helped raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. Fans were encouraged to wear pink and given pink ribbon stickers to wear as they entered the stadium. For a donation, you could celebrate, remember, and honor those impacted by breast cancer and receive a candy bag with pink items. At the conclusion of the third quarter, survivors in the audience were asked to stand. In addition, family members and friends of those who were impacted by breast cancer were invited to stand in honor of their loved ones. A total of $102.55 was collected.

ACADEMICS: Scholars Academy Freshmen Mentor Inc! Students

The Scholars Academy Magnet for Business and Law freshmen had the pleasure of participating as judges for the Kelly Mill Inc! 7th grade Invention Convention on October 15, 2019.  Kelly Mill students create new inventions to improve life.  Scholars Academy freshmen saw some amazing things they wanted to take home and couldn't wait to be assigned as mentors for the Shark Tank round. #futureSObright

Blazer families and community members, we would like you to contribute to our Veterans Day Assembly Presentation slideshow. To do so, please follow the directions below. You will need a personal Google account or you may work with your Ridge View student and use his/her account to create your family slide.

If do not have a Google account, please download it in any format you choose by clicking File, Download as. Be sure the format you choose is one that you can use to edit the presentation.
2. Follow the instructions on the first slide of the presentation. If you had to download the presentation to edit it, delete all slides but the one you added. Email your completed slide to Zodelva Travis at 10022192@richland2.org.

SCHOLARSHIP: Have You Applied for This Scholarship?

The 100 Black Men of Greater Columbia, Inc. is currently accepting applications for its 2019-2020 Scholarship Program.  Scholarships are valued at $500 per academic year and are renewable for up to four (4) years (for a maximum of $2,000 for each award).  

All applications and supporting materials must be postmarked by November 15, 2019.  Scholarship recipients will be notified by March 1, 2020, and scholarship presentations will be made at our Annual Scholarship and Awards Program in May 2020.  Additional information and the application materials by clicking on the image.

ARTS: SFA Senior Mouhamed Wade's Design Wins

Congrats to Senior Mouhamed Wade.  He entered and won a contest hosted by the SC Consortium for Gifted Education.  Mouhamed's artwork was chosen as the brochure cover for the conference.  He was also awarded $100 for his winning design.
