Iantha Florit Wins Spanish Achievement Scholarship

Congratulations to Iantha Florit, a 2013 graduate of Ridge View High School, who has received a first place scholarship of $500 through the National Spanish Examinations

Students become eligible for this scholarship by scoring in either the gold, silver or bronze categories on the National Spanish Examinations. Students must then submit an application form along with a sample of their Spanish language writing and speaking. Their written and oral proficiencies are evaluated by a committee.

"Earning a scholarship for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious," said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, "because only 24 students are chosen from among the 150,000 students who take the National Spanish Exams each year."

Students from Ridge View High School have a long history of high achievement on these exams and were taught by Spanish teacher Fatima Bucheli.

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
