RV Teacher Earns Grants Toward Special Olympics

Mrs. Janice Rice-Kafafy, Ridge Views Special Education Department Leader, was recently awarded grants of $1,000 from Doctor's Care - Ridge View, and $1,200 from Project UNIFY of the Special Olympics corporation.

Our Special Olympics students attended the opening ceremony of the new Doctor's Care on Hardscrabble Road, and received the donation.  Mrs. Rice said they were chosen primarily because of the many things we do at Ridge View to unify our students such as Arts Leadership, Sports Leadership, Student Council Leadership, etc.  Mrs. Rice would like to thank the whole Ridge View community for your efforts.

The grant from Project UNIFY includes an "End the R-Word Kit and Banner" (worth $200), a complete Disc Golf set ($500), a Walmart supply cart ($150), a group set of t-shirts ($150), and transportation to and from the State House Rally on March 25th ($200).

Her students also participated in the Special Olympics Project UNIFY Youth Activation Summit on September 26th.  All of them had a great time and learned how they could come back and help make each of their school's a better place in regarding unifying our student body regardless of disabilities. Fun was had by all.
