A Short History of Veterans Day

Veterans Day, formerly Armistice Day, is celebrated every year on November 11th to mark the armistice, or cease fire, between the Allies and Germany on the Western Front of World War I. This armistice took effect on the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918.

Most countries changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day after World War II to honor veterans of that and subsequent conflicts. Most member nations of the British Commonwealth of Nations adopted the name Rememberance Day, while the United States chose All Veterans Day (later shortened to "Veterans Day") to explicitly honor our military veterans. The day is still known as Armistice Day in France, Belgium and New Zealand.

In honor of our veterans, Ridge View will be hosting our Veterans Day Assembly at 11:00 AM today, November 11th, in appreciation of all our veterans.
