Congratulations to Senior Jontay Mitchum on signing a national letter of intent to play NCAA Division I basketball for Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. The All-Region guard signed on Wednesday, November 13th in the RVHS gymnasium in front of her family, friends, and teammates.
Mitchum has been on the Varsity team for her first three years at Ridge View. She has helped the Lady Blazers records of 14-6, 20-7 and 16-10 during that time. Statistically, she has been one of the team leaders during that time period.
She averaged 6.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.2 steals as a freshman. Jontay improved during her sophomore campaign to 9.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2.7 steals per game. Last year was her finest season yet as she improved in all categories to 13.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.4 steals per game.
According to her coach, Terrence Gibson, she is also a great leader on and off the court.
