Winter Wishes 2013: Branching Out to Serve Others

Winter Wishes is upon us. This is our annual school-wide charity drive to help those in need for the holidays. Donations from community members can be dropped off at the main entrance to the school. This year Ridge View is sponsoring four projects:

  • Collecting non-perishable goods to benefit God's Storehouse. Our goal is to collect 13,000 goods.
  • Sponsoring foster children to benefit the children of the Department of Social Services. Our goal is to sponsor 80 children. If you would like to sponsor a foster child, you must be willing to buy $60 in presents plus a teddy bear to represent the child at the Winter Wishes Assembly on Wednesday, December 11th.
  • The Giving Bowl is a collaboration between Student Council and the Fine Arts department in which a soup kitchen style dinner is served. Tickets are sold for the dinner. Each ticket sold allows the recipient to choose a "bowl" that has been created by students in our Visual Arts program. The money raised will benefit The Family Shelter. Our goal is to raise $1,800. This dinner will be held on Thursday, November 21st from 6:00 - 7:30 PM. Tickets will be sold starting November 12th and can be purchased from a member of Student Council, NAHS, Dance or Drama. Entertainment for the Giving Bowl will be provided by RV's dance, drama, orchestra, band and chorus departments. There will also be a silent auction for gift baskets beginning on November 12th and ending on the night of the Giving Bowl.
  • We will be collecting new books and new toys to benefit Happy Wheels. The goal is to collect 200 items. We are focusing on 12-18 year olds and requests include: sports balls, DVD's (not R-rated), board games like Monopoly, cosmetic items, card games, handheld electronic games, sketch books and colored pencils, iTunes gift cards ($10 denominations), and puzzles (500 pieces or more).

Other fundraiser dates of note include:

  • Moe's Night: Wednesday, November 20th from 4-9 PM (10% of profits go to Winter Wishes)
  • Dress Days: December 2-6 (more information will be forthcoming)
  • Winter Wishes Assembly: Wednesday, December 11th during an extended 1st period.
