ACADEMICS Spotlight: Clemson Visits Chemistry Classes

Dr. Maynes' Honors Chemistry classes enjoyed a semi-annual visit from Dr. Bob Bowen, the Director of Recruitment for the College of Engineering and Science, and the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Clemson University. Dr. Bowen conducted demonstrations in the field of Materials Science such as the making of plasma (or "the sun in a microwave"), the principle behind the disposable diaper, the technology behind resorbable vein and artery matrices, the fiber engineering of dialysis, the design and materials for replaceable body joints, and the manipulation of light with rare earth elements to make cars "smarter" and safer.
