Beginning
March 3, 2014, Ridge View High School held its first annual Distracted Driving
Campaign. The campaign focused on
educating students about the dangers of driving while being distracted, which
included driving while talking on the cellphone, texting, eating, putting on
makeup, or under the influence. Students participated in poster and essay contests, driving simulators,
and driving activities with real cars hosted by the 911 Driving Academy. The finale was an assembly for all juniors
and seniors with guest speakers Tammy Garlock and members of the Richland
County Sheriff’s Department. During the
assembly Ms. Garlock talked about her son, who she lost in a crash caused by
distracted driving. All in all the
students learned about the dangers of driving while being distracted and on how
to be a smarter driver behind the wheel.
