On Monday, June 16th, the Scholars Academy sophomores attended a rally at the S.C. State House in support of reopening the George Stinney case. Stinney, the youngest person to be executed in the state of South Carolina, is believed by some to be innocent of the crimes for which he was convicted. An advocacy group requested a new trial from the state of South Carolina and is awaiting word on whether or not that will happen.
The students spent the semester studying the case as part of their Research I class, and will continue advocacy work related to the case in the fall. The students were interviewed by WIS. The links to each broadcast are below.
