On September 3rd, Dr. Maynes Honors Chemistry class enjoyed a visit by Dr. Robert Bowen, Director of Recruitment from Clemson University's Department of Materials Science. Dr. Bowen meets with Honor classes around the state each semester to build interest in Clemson, but also to share a repertoire of interesting demonstrations based on chemistry and materials science. Of particular interest were his demonstrations of formation of artificial veins from seaweed solution, his creation of plasma in a microwave, and the effect of the polymer which makes modern disposable diapers so effective.
