The junior BioHealth and Allied Health Magnet students investigated how bacteria acquires antibiotic resistance. The students conducted a bacterial conjugation lab in which they cultured two strains with separate antibiotic resistance genes. The two strains were incubated together on growth media plates and allowed to conjugate, or reproduce. Following incubation, the students tested the new colonies to determine if they acquired both antibiotic resistance genes from the original strains.
