ACADEMICS: Clemson Director Visits Chemistry Class
Dr. Maynes' Honors Chemistry class enjoyed a visit last week from Dr. Bob Bowen, Director of Recruitment for Clemson's Department of Materials Science. Dr. Bowen discussed a variety of inventions utilizing chemistry and materials science such as nondestructive testing using sound waves, creation of prototype veins from seaweed (illustrated), use of engineered fibers in kidney dialysis, the plasma state of matter created in a microwave, and even the chemical basis for the success of the disposable diaper. Dr. Bowen also provided some insights into planning for the students' future education and career paths.
