On December 12, 2015, 350 friends, family and members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. gathered at the Medallion Center to celebrate the chartering of the Blythewood-Northeast Columbia, Omega Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. The 70 charter members, all donned in white attire and green flower pins, included many employees and parents of students of our Richland District Two family. In addition, seniors Kaci Merriwether-Hawkins, Faith McKie, Brianna Gaither, and Jhane' Thomas participated as coat-check ladies for this historic event.
The morning began with a closed chartering ceremony followed by a chapter meeting and a celebration breakfast hosted by Mrs. Von Gaskins, WIS TV anchor and a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In addition, several noted guests shared words of wisdom and issued a challenge to the members of the new chapter who all pledged to honor its commitment of service by continuing to support the sorority's established programs within the community including educational enrichment, health promotion, family strengthening, environmental ownership and global impact.
