ATHLETICS: Softball Wins Beat Cancer with a Bat Tournament

This past weekend the Blazers Softball team opened the season with a 4-0 record during the Beat Cancer with a Bat Tournament hosted by North Central High School in Camden, SC. Here are some of the highlights from the games:

  • Game 1 was a battle of the defenses with the Blazers edging out Lakewood as Aniaya Price drove in Madison Stone for a 1-0 victory. Stone was stellar on the mound and tallied 9 strikeouts and no walks.
  • In game 2 versus Lee County, the Blazers offense was aggressive and tallied 13 runs on 8 hits. Senior Naja Hough had 7 strikeouts in an impressive outing.
  • In game 3, the Blazers picked up where they left off against Lee County. The Blazers had 10 hits in defeating Dreher 6-0. Aniaya Price didn't give up a hit as she recorded 9 strikeouts in the win.
  • In Game 4 proved to be what you would expect for a championship game. Both the Blazers and the host North Central Knights battled it out into the bottom of the last inning when Mallory Jeffcoat drove in the game tying and winning RBI's with an infield single. Jeffcoat recorded 3 RBI's in the Blazers 5-4 defeat of the Knights. Madison Stone had another stellar outing on the mound and recorded 11 strikeouts and allowed only 1 walk.

The Blazers officially open the season on March 7th at 6 pm at Richland Northeast High School. Come on out and support your Blazers!
