Town Hall Meeting Tonight
Students in Ridge View High School's Scholars Academy for Business and Law Magnet program have taken the lead to help prevent teen dating violence. They are hosting a town hall meeting on relationship violence with State Representative Mia McLeod (Richland). State Representative Many Norrell (Lancaster) will also be in attendance. Students attending the Town Hall tonight will receive a free ticket to an RVHS soccer game.
The Scholars Academy students have been in the news lately for their advocacy of "Sierra's Law," which would allow people under the age of 18 to get an order of protection against an abusive partner. The town hall will provide the unique opportunity to discuss what South Carolina can do to end cycles of abuse in our communities and focus on ways we can all be partners in ending violence and ensuring safety for loved ones. WIS-TV weekend anchor Meaghan Norman will moderate the event. The public is invited and welcome to attend. Form more information, please contact Nicole Walker at nwalker@richland2.org.

ACADEMICS: CAT Field Study to Palmetto Health Orthopedics
The freshmen CAT computer science students were able to go on a field study to Palmetto Health Orthopedics and see first hand how information technology is being integrated into the medical field and the many possible careers associated with IT in medicine. They were able to hold and focus an arthroscope as well as use the camera and video, which are all used during an arthroscopic surgery. They also visited the data center for Palmetto Health Orthopedic. However, most of their data is stored on the cloud. It was impressed upon them how IT is able to make the doctors more efficient and give the patients a more pleasant experience. It was another great adventure for the Carolina Alliance for Technology (CAT) students to gain exposure to the career pathways associated with computer science.
