Scholars Academy for Business and Law student Thomas Drummond is conducting a senior capstone research project on the effects of music therapy on the elderly. Music helps keep the effects of certain diseases such as Alzheimer's or Dementia at bay. According to a study from 2015 by the Alzheimer's Association, this accounts for 60-80% of these cases. Thomas plans to go into a nursing home to interview people with these diseases as well as playing music and asking how their mood changes. His eventual goal for the project is to show nursing homes how important music is for their residents by either playing it throughout a building or bringing musical groups to the homes to play for the residents.
