Congratulations to our 2017
South Carolina Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership
Conference Competitors on winning 11 medals and two $1,000 Scholarships. “I was
amazed at the perseverance this group of students exhibited over the last 3
months. Each and every one of them were completely prepared for their
competitive event,” stated Diane Melton, RVHS HOSA Advisor, of this year’s 32
competitors. Eighty percent of our Skill Event competitors moved on to the 2nd
Round after their written exam. Congratulations to the following students on
making the 2nd Round: Devin Via (Nursing Assisting), Averiona
McDonald & Kassidy Todd (Medical Assisting), Fama Diop (Home Health Aide),
Brenden Shipshock & Geraldo Bracete (CPR/First Aid), Chastity Thomas &
Tyra Miller (CERT) and Kayla Henry (Sports Medicine). The following medalists qualified to move on to
Nationals in Orlando, Florida from June 20-25th:
- Bronze Medalists: Ericka VanAlstine (Pathophysiology), Jonathan Gabriel (Physical Therapy), Ashanti Gibbons (Medical Assisting), Elizabeth Infante (Extemporaneous Health Poster), & Semaj Strong (Home Health Aide).
- Silver Medalist: Erin Walker (Biomedical Lab Science)\
- Gold Medalists: Joy Vankallen (Physical Therapy), Savannah Talledo (Prepared Speaking), Iyanna Chapman (Creative Problem Solving), Jack Talledo (Creative Problem Solving), & Faith Thompson (Creative Problem Solving).
Savannah Talledo
and Erin Walker both received $1,000 Scholarships. Savannah, the Chapter
President, was also recognized as RVHS’ Outstanding HOSA Member. Both of these young ladies have been with
HOSA since they were freshmen and have qualified for Nationals each year. Congratulations Blazers!
