Jazmin Goodwin & U.S.
Representative Tom Cole of Oklahoma |
Jazmin Goodwin, a Class of 2014 Ridge View and GEAR Up alumnus, spent the morning of March 8th testifying before the U.S. House of Representatives on behalf of the GEAR UP community. She shared her story of participating in the GEAR UP Alumni Leadership Academy (GUALA). She also wanted House members to know that GEAR UP works and deserves greater investment. "GEAR UP changed not only my perception, but essentially the culture of our school by helping students identify academic and carer goals, working with families to develop concrete educational plans to achieve goals (be it college, the military, or a career path), and providing a wealth of programs to support us," said Goodwin. Ms. Goodwin's testimony is important because the House Subcommittee on Labor-HHS-Education may have to make $18-20 billion in cuts across various labor, health, and education programs for which the committee appropriates funds. Congratulations Jazmin on her hard work and dedication to keeping programs like GEAR UP available to our students.
