On April 8th, students from across Columbia gathered at the South Carolina Science Academy to compete in the annual NAACP ACT-SO Columbia Competition. Students competed in academic disciplines including the Humanities, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Sciences and Business. Seven Ridge View students received medals at the awards ceremony at the GMG Music Center on April 9th. Those students are:
- Kennedy Bacon, Silver medal in drawing
- Myia Bacon, Bronze medal in Music Vocal Classical
- Joletta Barnes, Bronze medal in Music Vocal Contemporary
- Illia Dia, Silver medal in Music Vocal Classical and a Gold medal in Music Vocal Contemporary and Dramatics
- Kiara Hayes, Gold medal in Music Vocal Classical
- Rondasia Willis, Bronze medal in Dance Modern and a Silver medal in Dance Contemporary
- Amari Woodard, Silver medal in dramatics
As gold medalists, Illia Dia and Kiara Hayes will advance to represent Ridge View and the city of Columbia at the National ACT-SO Olympics that will be held this July 20-24th in Baltimore, Maryland. They will have an opportunity to compete for up to $5,000 in scholarship prizes. Congratulations Blazers!
