Scholars Academy Magnet for Business and Law Senior Damion Daley's AP Research project focuses football helmets' ability to reduce concussions. Due to the high physicality of football, concussions can result in Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), as well as negatively affecting one’s performance and behavior. The brain is delicate and necessary. Daley is a football player and plans on playing college football. His research will inform not only give him a better understanding of the effects of CTE, but also his brother, teammates, and friends, as well as make ensure football players are safe from serious concussions that could result in CTE. Currently the Vicis Zero 1 Helmet is the safest helmet in the NFL, reduces the number of concussion received while playing football, and was worn by approximately 70 NFL players this season. All other NFL players were wearing helmets that had similar designs to helmets worn in the 1970s. Daley believes that if the Vicis Zero 1 helmet is truly the safest helmet, all football players on every level should be issued this helmet. You can follow his research on Twitter.
