The Blazer wrestling team got on the mat with the RNE Cavaliers last night in the first match of the 2018 Region 3-4A schedule. The Blazers got out to a quick 24-6 start before RNE was able to tie it up 24-24. Jabari Hampton broke the tie and the Blazers never looked back from that point on. While not securing a victory, Jalen Jones wrestled a great back-and-forth match that prevented RNE from securing bonus points that helped to insure that Ridge View would surely outpoint the visitors. McKale Yanagacio came up with a huge pin that padded the lead and left a little margin for error. In the final match of the evening, Mike McQueen quickly dispatched his opponent with a devastating head-and-arm to secure the 42-33 victory.
The Blazers are one region victory away from securing a spot in the State playoffs! Also, the team has now surpassed last season’s win total after achieving our 5th win of this season. The Blazers will next wrestling at Midland Valley on Thursday night before the JV guys aim to qualify for their state tournament this weekend at Lugoff Elgin.
