The James F. Byrnes Scholarship Program was established in 1949 to assist young South Carolinians who had lost one or both parents to obtain a college education. The annual award of $3,500 is applied each year toward a four-year bachelor's degree program. The scholarship is renewed annually contingent upon the recipient's maintenance of satisfactory academic standing, need for financial assistance, and participation in Byrnes Scholar Activities.
