Westwood senior and Ridge View swimmer, MyKayla Kenner, signed her Letter of Intent with Columbia College on February 5, 2020.
MyKayla is the daughter of Natalie and Dexter Kenner of Columbia, South Carolina. She began her swimming career with the Greenview Dolphins USA Swimming team, under coaches Stanley McIntosh and Jerry Young. As an incoming freshman, MyKayla was approved by the South Carolina High School League to swim for Ridge View since Westwood did not offer a program.
A four-year letter winner, MyKayla’s career with Ridge View proved successful. As a senior, McKayla co-captained the girls team, which placed second overall in regionals and sent five qualifiers to state. A freestyler, McKayla anchored the 200 medley relay that placed first in regionals and made a state qualifying time. McKayla ended her high school career at the Class AAAA State Championship Swim Meet with a 15th place finish as a member of the 200 medley relay team.
McKayla will begin the next phase of her swimming career at Columbia College, under Head Coach Turk Dogruyol, this fall. McKayla plans on majoring in business with a concentration in fashion business and entrepreneurship.
The Ridge View High School swim team is comprised of two teams, boys and girls. As a fall sport, the season runs from the first week of August until the second week of October. Those zoned for Ridge View or Westwood are allowed to tryout. Middle school students are eligible to tryout for the team their seventh grade year. For more information, email Ridgeviewswim@gmail.com
