ACADEMICS: Ridge View Reads Summer Reading Program

The purpose of our summer reading program is to motivate non-readers to read and encourage readers to read more! On average, students lose three months of information retention over the summer, but reading just 15 minutes a day can prevent this loss. Summer reading can also serve as an exciting opportunity for students to read for pleasure while building background knowledge and comprehension skills. There are two components to our summer reading program: school-wide summer reading and an English Department Honors and AP Summer Reading program. ATHLETICS: Kenison Named Cross Country Coach

Julie Kenison
Julie Kenison was recently named the new boys and girls cross country coach at Ridge View. Athletic Director Brian Rosefield says Kenison brings an enormous amount of knowledge, passion and energy to the cross country program. "We feel very fortunate to have found someone with her experience to coach our young men and women. Coach Kenison is one of the most personable people I have ever been around and I am glad to have her on our team to lead our student-athletes," said Rosefield. Kenison has experience coaching high school and collegiate athletes in Texas. "I am so looking forward to re-entering the coaching field here at Ridge View High and becoming a Blazer! Being a lifelong runner myself and a fan of young people, desiring to help them on the path to reaching their best potential, both as people and athletes, I am eager to become a part of their lives," she said. On the diamond, Coach Julio Iglesias, a Ridge View alum, says he is honored to be named head coach and thankful to Principal Dr. Brenda Mack-Foxworth and Brian Rosefield for the opportunity. Kenison holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education in Physical Education from Texas A & M University.
