During last week's Reading Celebration, Mr. McMicken, an English teacher, arranged for inmates from the Department of Juvenile Justice to come speak to the students who read Monster by Walter Dean Myers. The novel is about a juvenile who is on trial for murder because of a minor role that he may have played in a robbery that went bad. The DJJ inmates spoke to our students about how they ended up in DJJ, and about the hardships that they face on a daily basis.
