Borowiec Named Teacher of the Year

Principal Brenda Mack-Foxworth with Mrs. Borowiec
Ridge View is proud to announce that Mrs. Jennifer Borowiec has been selected as our Teacher of the Year for 2014-2015. Mrs. Borowiec has taught social studies at The View for six years. She is currently teaching AP Human Geography, AP World History, and Honors World Geography. She has been one of our more active teachers outside of the classroom serving on several school, district, and state level committees, and has made staff development presentations at all three levels. She also formerly served as a the Cheerleading Coach here at The View.

In speaking with her students, they hold Mrs. Borowiec in high regard. Molly Deese said, "She is one of my favorite teachers ever. She holds an excitement for teaching; this enthusiasm carries over to her students and instills in us an excitement for learning. She has a unique teaching style and genuinely cares about her students." These sentiments were echoed by Hadiyah Lewis. "She's been my biggest supporter in my 4 years here. She's always available to talk and give advice on whatever is going on in your life. She is open minded, takes what students say to heart and tries to accommodate our needs. I've never had a teacher who has pushed me as hard or inspired me to want to learn as much as her.

Mrs. Borowiec was also the co-founder of the South Carolina Geography Collaborative, whose purpose is to assist teachers in establishing an engaging geography classroom while complying with the state standards. The curriculum that she helped to develop has been adopted by over 20 schools statewide. She is also currently helping to establish the South Carolina World History Collaborative.

"Mrs. Borowiec is a great teacher," stated fellow teacher Bob Crowley. "Her students love her, and I am thankful for her leadership. She has shared countless lessons with me and others around the state. She has truly helped me to become a better teacher and colleague."
