Thanks to a grant from The Links, Inc. South Carolina Chapter, Mrs. Strickland's Nutrition class, and Mrs. Harrison's Dance 2 class were able to combine for several cross-curricular activities. The classes worked together to plan a healthy picnic lunch, then walked to Food Lion and purchased all of the items needed to prepare the lunch. The following day, the students prepared the lunch, which included sandwiches, energy bites, and homemade chips and salsa. Both classes then took a field trip to Doko Farms and Crooked Cedar Farms, both in Blythewood. While at the farms, they helped with chores, interacted with the animals and learned about sustainable farming, heritage breed animals, and organic farming. As part of learning about healthy living, Mrs. Harrison's class then invited Mrs. Strickland's class in for several days of Zumba to introduce them to a type of lifetime physical activity that they can incorporate into a healthy lifestyle.
