Major England and First Sergeant Cannon attended Fort Jackson's JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge along with 14 of their cadets from June 9th to June 15th. The JCLC is designed to develop leadership skills and foster the team building concept while improving a Cadet's self-esteem. Some of the events included rapelling tasks, obstacle course, high ropes/low ropes, canoeing, drown proofing (constructing raft), using a compass, map reading, recognizing military rank, first aid, ACT/SAT questions, JROTC knowledge questions, and the Cadet Creed. The Cadets were also assigned to a company with other JROTC Cadets from throughout South Carolina, which provided them with an opportunity to meet other Cadets and share knowledge of their program. The mission and goal of JROTC were constantly enforced. The mission of JROTC is to "motivate young people to be better citizens" while the goal is for them to "graduate high school." Our Cadets proudly represented Ridge View and the Blazer Battalion. Aaahoooah!!! To read more about the challenge click, here. More pictures can also be found on our Flickr page.
