This summer five of our RV students: Darrius Brown, Faith
McKie, Asha Simmons, Nadja Seymour and Jhane’ Thomas, went on a twelve day tour
of Spain, Portugal and Morocco. The
first stop was Portugal where students learned about the conquistadores and
their trips to the New World (now known as the Americas). While in Portugal they visited Jeronimo’s
monastery and Castle Hill. The next part
of the journey was Spain. Our students
visited various areas of Spain. They
especially enjoyed Andalucía, (the area in the south of Spain), where they visited
castles, temples and housing built by some of Spain’s earliest settlers, the
Muslims. They were also amazed to see
the many ancient structures that were transformed into cathedrals, monasteries
and government buildings. While in
Granada (a city in the south of Spain), our students competed in a city
challenge. They had to request
information in Spanish from the local people and it is not a surprise that our
students won first place. The trip
culminated in crossing the Mediterranean Sea by boat, experiencing shopping in
a market and riding on camels in Morocco.
During this trip our students had the opportunity to experience
firsthand, many different cultures, cuisines, and learn about the histories of
the visited countries. They have become
students of the world. Mrs. Bucheli and
three other chaperones accompanied the students. Everyone learned a lot and enjoyed the trip.
