On Thursday, November 12, several organizations competed in Ridge
View High School’s annual Canned Goods Sculpture contest. The task was to
create a sculpture consisting of at least 100 cans that pertained to Winter
Wishes in three hours. The Winter Wishes Committee announced JROTC as winner. Contestants included the Scholars Academy with
the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA), BioHealth Magnet, HOSA – Future Health
Professionals, National Honor Society, the Carolina Alliance of Technology (CAT)
Club, Student Council, and Student 2 Student. School for the Arts, National Art
Honors Society, the Feminist Club and the German Club also competed as one
team.
“It was a great bonding experience,” said senior Jammie Huynh who
participated with Scholars Academy and GSA. “It just shows how a community
comes together and participates in an event like this. It’s really inspiring.”
From this event alone, the Student Council collected over 1000
cans for Ridge View High School’s Winter Wishes Community Service Project. If you are interested in helping Ridge View
reach it’s goals of collecting 13,000 cans, please drop off your donations to
the Main Office. A student council
member will be able to meet you to collect your items.
