The American Chemical Society sponsors an international chemical competition each year called Chem Olympiad to identify the top high school chemistry students for the year. This past weekend, five members of Dr. Maynes' AP Chemistry class participated in the first phase of this process, the local regional exam given by Dr. Scott Goode at the University of South Carolina. Participants included, and are pictured from left to right, Kathleen Arevalo, Tori Huey, Lydia Hinson, DeAsia Witherspoon and Chandler Bailey. Our best wishes go out to all of these excellent chemistry students as they await their scores and the possibility of advancing to the national competition.
