Sophomore Kicker Nick Lawyer |
The Ridge View Blazers stunned Blythewood on a last second field goal to defeat the Bengals 23-21 to improve to 2-0 on the season. Most of the first half belonged to Blythewood as they went up 18-0 before heading into halftime 18-7, but the Blazers hung in there and pulled to within one point late in the fourth quarter. With the Bengals up 21-20, Ridge View attempted but was unsuccessful on a two point conversion. The Blazers were given one more opportunity after Dejuan Warren forced a Bengals fumble and recovered it on the next possession. After driving deep into Bengals territory, it appeared that time expired as Blythewood's bench emptied onto the field in celebration. Their celebration turned out to be premature, however, as one second was put back on the clock. Placekicker Nick Lawyer then nailed a field goal through the uprights for the victory. The Blazers defense held Blythewood to only three second half points a week after shutting out Sumter in the second half for another come from behind victory. After two weeks of football, one thing should be clear, don't count the Blazers out!
