On Thursday, October 26, 2017 recent graduates Micayla Hayden, Lynnise Brown, Chris Kane, and Madeline Hahn of the Scholars Academy Magnet for Business and Law had the opportunity to testify before the Joint Legislative and Citizens Committee on Children at the State House to push for final passage of The Teen Dating Violence Prevention Act, which passed the Senate last year and is headed to the House for the 2018 session. The bill, affectionately known as Sierra’s Law on behalf of Sierra Landry who was killed by her ex-boyfriend, would allow minors to get restraining orders against their abusers and provide education to children in South Carolina to learn the signs of relationship violence.
