CAT students in front of artwork created by SCAD students from old Prysmian Cables |
Ridge View CAT students within the Engineering track of our grant attended a field study at Prysmian Cable, a manufacturing corporation that uses a wide variety of engineers in their facility. From the Prysmian Group website they are a world leader in the energy and telecom cables and systems industry. With nearly 140 years of experience, sales of over €7.5 billion in 2016, 21,000 employees across 50 countries and 82 plants, the Group is strongly positioned in high-tech markets and offers the widest possible range of products, services, technologies and know-how. They operate in the businesses of underground and submarine cables and systems for power transmission and distribution, of special cables for applications in many different industries and of medium and low voltage cables for the construction and infrastructure sectors. For the telecommunications industry, the Group manufactures cables and accessories for voice, video and data transmission, offering a comprehensive range of optical fibres, optical and copper cables and connectivity systems.
CAT students were able to tour the entire process of making fibre optics cables, from the coloring of the cables, to quality control, to the shipping docks. Truly a unique experience that did inspire several students. They also took a Myers Briggs Personality Indicator to learn more about themselves and the skills needed to work with other types of personalities.
