Do you have a student who would be a good candidate for AVID? Typical AVID students are on average make Cs, but are capable of completing a college preparatory or higher level path with some support. These students often are not realizing their full potential academically. In the identification process a number of criteria are considered, including:
- 2.5 – 3.5 or higher GPA
- Citizenship
- Attendance
- Desire and Determination
- Could be successful in Honors or AP courses, given the right support
- Historically Underrepresented in 4-year colleges/universities
- Other considerations: first in the family to attend college or economically disadvantage (These qualities are not requirements for AVID.)
The AVID team consider all factors when choosing students for the program. So please do not worry if your student does not meet one or more of these criteria do not apply. You should still consider applying.
Please note that a requirement of the AVID Program is that AVID students must complete at least one AP course of their choosing by the time they graduate.
