Nine DECA students from Ridge View High School competed in the State DECA Competition in Charleston, during the weekend of March 2-4, 2018. The Ridge View DECA State Team won BIG! Congratulations to the following students who competed against DECA students from across South Carolina and placed in the following categories.
- Keianna Benson and Kaylan Cooper: 1st Place, Business Law and Ethics Team Decision Making
- Victoria James and Averiona McDonald: 4th Place, Entrepreneurship Start-Up Business Plan
- Destiny Jenkins and Aysenur Erkek: Top Ten, Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan
- Kayla Jenkins: Top Ten, Principles of Business Management and Administration
Jenkins and Erkek represented Ridge View as Voting Delegates and was elected as the state officers for next year. Benson, Cooper, James, and McDonald each received a $1,500 Scholarship as a result of their performance at the State Competition.
A special congratulation goes to Mrs. Pat Jackson, Ridge View’s DECA Advisor. As one of only two state-wide honorees, she was named an Honorary Life Member and received the DECA Advisor's Award. Mrs. Jackson has been the DECA Advisor for Ridge View High School since the inception of the DECA program in 1997, and has served on the SC DECA Board of Directors for several years.
Students who placed at State Competition qualified to represent Ridge View, Richland 2, and South Carolina at The DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, GA on April 21-24, 2018.
