ARTS: SFA Sophomore, James Nesbitt, Attending the Telluride Sophomore Seminar

School for the Arts student and Ridge View Sophomore, James Nesbitt, received some exciting news this week.  He was one of only 56 high school sophomores from across the country selected to participate in the Telluride Sophomore Seminar at Cornell University.  The program aims to “inspire young people to explore the histories, politics and cultural experiences of people of African descent and a variety of other topics (TASS 2018).”  Each day, James will take part in a seminar where he attends lectures, works with guest artists, participates in writing workshops, and develops a public speaking presentation on a topic of his choice.  James was selected to participate in Cornell University’s Seminar II, “Shades of Blackness: Exploring Race, Gender, and Sexuality in the African Diaspora through Performance, Film, Music, and Art.”  James was nominated for the seminar by his School for the Art director and school.  In order to apply, James had to submit an essay and complete an interview.  If you’re interested in learning more about the program, click on the image.
