ATHLETICS Highlight - Bojangles' Night This Tuesday

Join us Tuesday night for Bojangles' Night as the Ridge View Varsity basketball teams take on Irmo at Ridge View Gymnasium. The Girls game begins at 6:00 PM, and the boys take the floor at 7:30 PM.  The Irmo girls come in ranked #2 in the state while the Irmo boys are ranked #1.

In addition to high-level basketball, Tuesday night is also Bojangles' Night where the first 1,000 fans will receive a Bojangles' gift card valued anywhere between $1 and $100!  Come out and support your varsity basketball team while being rewarded with a Bojangles' gift card!

ACADEMIC Spotlight: Magnet Students Tour School of Medicine

Four Freshmen BioHealth students attended Role Models in Medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Marie Arnold, Hezekiah Branch, Ece Erkek, and Tajah Pinkard were able to learn how to use and read ultrasounds, the importance of simulation to build teamwork to reduce accidental deaths, and the physiology of EKGs. They toured the cadaver lab to experience a small taste of Medical School. Thank you USC's School of Medicine for providing our students with this extraordinary experience.

We Apologize For Our Mistake

Dear Ridge View Family,

We are writing to retract a news announcement that was released last month.  On January 18, 2014, we announced that the National Rifle Association Foundation awarded the Ridge View High School JROTC Blazer Rangers Rifle team a grant worth nearly $10-thousand.  Unfortunately, Ridge View did not receive this grant; and we must retract that statement.  In fact, the National Rifle Association's State Committee recommended that the Rangers receive a $2,500 grant.  We are hopeful that these funds will be awarded.  We sincerely regret our mistake and any inconvenience it has caused.

Mock Trial Practices at Richland County Courthouse

On Friday, January 24th, the Ridge View Mock Trial Team traveled to the Richland County Courthouse to practice with Greg Collins (pictured top right), the team's cooperating attorney, in preparation for the Midlands Regional competition in February. Our Mock Trial team will compete against fifteen other schools at the regional competition in an effort to qualify for the state competition in March. The team is coached by Mrs. Carol Kannisto of the Social Studies Department, and includes E'Jayia Bell, Darrius Brown (not pictured below), Ja'Keena Dickerson, Zack Edwards, Colin English, Joann Huynh, Jasmine Lee, Aaron Mathew, DeMarki Miller, Rayshawun Praylow, Sharese Salters, Mia Simpson, and Kianna Sweatt.

RSD2 Schedules Inclement Weather Make-up Days

In accordance with State Law, Richland School District Two designated three inclement weather days in the 2013-2014 school year calendar. These days are Friday, February 14, Friday, March 28th, and Monday, April 2nd. Because school was canceled Tuesday and Wednesday of this week due to inclement weather, we will have school on Friday, February 14th and Friday, March 28th to make-up for the time lost.

ATHLETICS Highlight: Spring Sports Reminder

Ridge View Spring Sports tryouts will begin on February 3, 2014 at 4:00 PM at the appropriate athletic fields behind the school. The Spring Sports beginning that day include: Boys Golf, Track and Field, Baseball, and Softball.

Boys Tennis tryouts will begin February 24, 2014 at 4:00 PM at the tennis courts. 

Athletes must bring the following to the tryouts:

1. A physical date after April 1, 2013
2. Signed parent permission form
3. Health Information Form
4. Concussion Information Acknowledgement Form
5. Birth Certificate 

Health Information Forms and Additional Sport Specific Calendars can be found on the Ridge View Sports website at www.ridgeviewsports.com

These forms need to be completed and on file with our Athletic Trainer, Coach Hoppe (shoppe@richland2.org).  These forms can also be found on the athletic website or you can access them by clicking HERE.  You will also need a copy of your birth certificate on file with our Athletic Director, David Gordon (dgordon@richland2.org).

There is a one-time fee of $25 per year for each student-athlete, payable once final selections for each team have been made. If a student-athlete paid this fee in the fall or winter, you will not have to pay this again to participate in a spring sport.

BlazerFest Needs Sponsors and Business Booths

BlazerFest is currently seeking sponsorships, business contacts, and volunteers for the festival.  BlazerFest is Ridge View's community spring festival sponsored by the RVHS Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) which will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014 on our campus.  Highlights will include live entertainment, children's activities, concessions, a showcase of Ridge View's success in regard to its major programs and extracurricular opportunities, displays from local businesses, workshops from public service organizations, and a presence by the local fire department, the Richland County Sheriff's office, and Fort Jackson.

We are seeking major retailers and large employers in our communities to participate. If you have business connections or contacts, please click here to access the "Festival Sponsor" letter to share with them. Our deadline for businesses to commit to BlazerFest is Friday, Feb. 28th.

We are seeking sponsorships at the following levels:

• Silver Stallion: $1,000
• Thoroughbred: $500
• Trailblazer: $250

Finally, we will have a booth at the Ridge View High School Open House on Tuesday, February 11th, and will share more details about BlazerFest. This will be the best time to sign up for volunteering.
